We would like feedback from you on how best to compile a list of consultants who perform fibroid operations.
One of our most frequently asked questions, is where best to go for treatment, unfortunately unless we get alot of feedback from people, we have no way of knowing who the best Doctors are, & where, which is where our site visitors can help. At present there doesnt appear to be a resource available to provide a Gynaecologist's fibroid performance statistics. And if it were available, it wouldnt tell us whether a Dr performs lots of hysterectomies rather than myomectomies. It also wouldn't tell us whether people were given fully informed, choice of treatments.

1. We could either just prepare a list of all Dr's who do alternatives to hysterectomy by obtaining details from the hospitals (however, this wouldnt tell us the attitude or quality of the Dr's work)
2. We could ask the women who contact us to recommend their Doctor [although we wouldn't know whether it was a patient or a Dr recommending themselves)
3. Occasionally Dr's may perform 100's of operations well & then 1 operation may go wrong & we get a complaint, do we then withdraw the Doctor from the list.
Women can contact us directly by email rather than posted on the web, (due to libel constraints) with details of concerns about particular Doctors & if we receive a large amount of complaints , we can raise it with the relevant health authority.
One of the guests to this site raised the issue of Doctors possibly getting onto our lists who prefer to perform hysterectomies, which is difficult for us to monitor as we don't neccesarily have personal contact with each and every Doctor.
At present we have had alot of feedback from embolisation Doctors but not from Doctors who perform other traditional treatments like myomectomy etc, we would like to provide this information but we need feedback from women who have had successful treatments or Dr's informing us of their services.
If we choose, the only by recommendation by women option, we have the problem of confirming whether the person was a patient & not a Dr recommending themselves. In addition this would take longer to compile as I am assuming that most site visitors are looking for info on treatments & Dr's, & are not post op's. (I could be wrong) or they've had a treatment they were unhappy with so they are looking for an alternative. Therefore they wouldn't be the full lists we would like.
Sadly theUK NHS does not provide list of Doctors with their fibroid treatment speciality so we are producing our own directory through our own research & feedback. Most sites do not check individuals listed, they only check that they are relevant to the sites issues. We are also trying to get funding to help with compiling the list.
Another option would be for visitors to vote for a separate Best Fibroid Doctor Award. This would additionally encourage Doctors to provide a good service so that they would be recommended by their patients. And it would let everyone know who is considered to be the best Dr in their areas, Nationally or Internationally.
I suppose the dilemma is either list everyone &/or quality control the Doctors, & if so what criteria should we use?
This issue applies to both our International & national lists, so please feel free to contribute to the debate
These are just some ideas. Everyone's comments would be appreciated!
Thank you for your feedback
