Black Wome's Healthcare Debate-Fibroids Diane Abbott
Diane Abbot UK MP invites us to the Science Museum for a Healthcare Debate
On 6th May 2004 Diane Abbott UK Member of Parliament invites Fibroid Network
to a Black Women's Healthcare Debate at the new Dana Centre at the Science
Museum in London 7pm-10pm
This debate asks how we can create a culturally relevant, responsive and
targeted NHS? Although fibroids affects all races, what are the special needs
among ethnic minorities?
How does the medical profession deal with black women and their specific
healthcare needs? What are the challenges and barriers to communicating with
this group?
What, in turn, do black women need and want from the medical profession? Are
the so-called experts listening: and who are the experts anyway? Isn't it time
that healthcare professionals took notice of the knowledge and experience of
these women themselves? Participants' ideas and positive suggestions will be
submitted to the Department of Health's consultation exercise 'Choosing Health?
A consultation on action to improve people's health'.
